Lalena (Laine) Gieser has been part of the Animal Rights Club since its humble beginnings. In addition to helping strengthen the club and coordinating events, she implements professionalism in anything publicity-related; with a personal interest in design, she does the club's flyers and art for the website.

Autobiography:
can't deny the beauty of a big bear sunset
Hi! I'm Laine, I've been with the club since it consisted of just a small handful of people, and I'm thrilled to see how much it has grown and thrived since then.

My involvement with ARC encompasses stuff like helping coordinate events, providing assistance on questions relating to aspects of animal welfare (particularly vegan nutrition, cooking/baking, and college activism/outreach techniques), and doing most of the design/"marketing" for the club (e.g. website design/flyer design).

My passion for making things marketable and noticeable probably has something to do with my being a Communication Studies major - I attend UCLA under this field of study, just transferred as a junior for the Fall Quarter, and it's really awesome getting to be very actively involved in UCLA's own animal welfare club - Bruins for Animals! I am, not surprisingly, the publicity coordinator for BFA :)

With time, I've picked up a thing or to on how to be an effective animal advocate, mostly in the realm of educating the public.

Aside from that, as far as personal interests go I jump at the chance to do general personal design (incl. interior design)/art (incl. illustrating/sketching)/crafts, write for screenplays (in hopes of eventually getting to complete a decent film someday soon), take pictures (gotta get a new camera...), research paranormal stuff/go "ghost hunting" of sorts, and explore the world, near & far. And yes - all while avoiding contributions to the animal-exploiting industries when sanely possible, lol.

lysle!
Lysle Shaw-McMinn is the former president of the club.

Autobiography:
Hi I am Lysle!

I first became vegetarian when I was 17 or so, its weird looking back I cannot even remember how old I was, because it feels like yesterday. After reading about factory farming on the web, I decided to take a week off of meat while I do more research, and during that week I read Peter Singer's Animal Liberation, which convinced me that Animals should not be in the plight they are today. I have enjoyed philosophy and animal rights ever since. I became vegan when I met Laine (my girlfriend) in 2007.

my dog smoochie!
I know that this clubs existence will make a difference to animals, because it is already making a difference in my life choices, increasing my advocacy involvement. I hope it can do the same for everyone else in the club.

Thanks for browsing the site and bios. Maybe if a few more people make bios I can take myself off the spotlight members page that people see, haha!

Sara Jayne Breuer is the club's Secretary, thus keeping the club sane in the organization department, and goes beyond this role to help the club thrive, including making it to tabling frequently!

Autobiography:
Hi everyone! I am the secretary of the club, meaning I keep track of our upcoming events and meetings, plan schedules, write down the minutes, and other miscellaneous tasks. I have been involved in animal rights for about 6 years, ever since I joined an animal rights club my freshman year of high school. I have loved animals all my life though, I have 14! I also am interested in human rights, fashion, French, and Japanese culture. Feel free to call me or message me if you have any questions or suggestions. Thank you for taking an interest in animal welfare!
